Master Bond Offers UV15DC80Med, a Dual Curing System for Medical Industry

Master Bond UV15DC80Med offers a unique dual curing mechanism which employs UV light followed by heat to complete the polymerization.
This allows for curing areas on parts that do not allow UV light curing because of “shadowing” issues. This kind of UV system is highly desirable because it allows for rapid fixturing with completion of the cure accomplished by adding heat.
Formulated for demanding applications in the medical industry, UV15DC80Med passes stringent USP Class VI tests for biocompatibility as well as ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity standards. This one part no mix compound is capable of withstanding many chemicals including liquid steriliants, radiation and even steam in the form of autoclaving.
The heat curing portion of UV15DC80Med can be initiated at the relatively lower temperature of 80°C. This temperature is desirable because many plastics are sensitive to heat above that point. Another use of a dual cure UV is to fixture two optically opaque substrates, such as metals, using UV light exposure from a side angle and then completing the cure with heat.
UV15DC80Med has a moderate viscosity of 45,000-60,000 cps and is 100% reactive. The UV portion of the curing mechanism is cationic in nature. This type of curing system generally imparts lower shrinkage upon curing and is not susceptible to oxygen inhibition. With a tensile strength exceeding 5,000 psi at 75°F, UV15DC80Med bonds well to metals, glass, ceramics and many plastics. This high temperature resistant system is serviceable from -60°F to +400°F. It is available in a wide range of packaging options, including ½ pint, pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon containers. It can also be purchased in convenient syringe applicators.
