Russia: Domestic plastics production and exports to China collapse

Baspar / Iranpolymer From January to August, Russia exported significantly fewer polymers to China than in the same period last year. According to Peter Bazurow, Director General of the Russian Association of Plastics Processors RUSAPP (Russia), the export volume of polyethylene fell by more than half.

According to the association from Moscow, Russian exporters are concerned about the rapid decline in Chinese polymer imports – especially since shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, the largest Russian plastics producer Sibur (Russia) announced that it wanted to significantly increase polymer exports to China. As reported by the Russian state statistics office Rosstat, from January to August Russian polymer production also fell in several segments compared to the same period last year, mainly due to the weakening domestic automotive industry and a slowdown in the construction sector.
