PUR: Covestro declares force majeure for MDI

Baspar / Iranpolymer So far, the majority of the market participants in the PUR industry were still hoping for relaxation. However, on July 2, 2021, MDI producer Covestro (Leverkusen) reported an “unforeseeable loss of production” in Brunsbüttel and declared force majeure on the isocyanate for the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) region. Covestro operates two lines at the site, each with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year – it was not possible to find out whether only one or both systems had failed. The same applies to the exact reason for the disruption.

For the duration of the failure, the company announced that it would allocate quantities. At the same time, however, the group also warned that there could be complete failures in the supply.
